About Anne..

Anne’s teaching is inspired by her practice. Staying dedicated to her personal practice is how she stays true to what she teaches and shares with others.

For Anne, the physical body has become the pathway to knowing herself within the more subtle, energetic layers, which has ultimately brought further insight to the truth underneath.. well, everything.

The heart of her teaching is breath & alignment-based vinyasa, taught with thematic sequences that tell a story. She also loves to get technical and break down postures as a form of meditation, which challenges her students to slow down at times too.

Anne cares a lot about safety and encourages modifications, reminding students to meet themselves where they are.  Her teaching is grounding, energising and light-hearted. We can take the practice seriously, but we can also find joy in not taking ourselves so seriously.

Anne has been a student of yoga since 1999, and a teacher since 2003. For 16 years she taught public classes and private clients in Los Angeles, as well as traveled nationally and internationally teaching the Yoga Works 200-Hour and 500-Hour Teacher Training Programs. For the past two years, she has been teaching in-person classes where she lives in Hawaii, as well as giving online instruction.

Exploring Asana with Strength & Stability: Rejuvenating Our Practice w/ Anne Van Valkenburg

This four-part class series will deconstruct many of the traditional yoga postures, using the study of the pelvis and spine as the fulcrum of our instruction. We will journey together through the best practices of each family of postures, first encouraging strength and stability, and then exploring the range of mobility that’s ideal for you.

DAILY SCHEDULE

THE PRACTICE

Each workshop will include a vinyasa style practice, an extended prananyama and meditation/relaxation.

Practice 2: Standing Postures; The foundation of our physical practice

Practice 3: Backbends and Inversions; Invigorating, energising and meditative

Practice 4: Forward Bends and Seated Postures; Calming and quieting
