The Studio
An Seomra Yoga [On Show-mm-ra Yo-gah]:
“Galway’s Yoga Room”
Our studio is a quaint, comfortable and all-around relaxed yoga studio, with hardwood floors and large windows in the heart of Galway's West End. We offer the widest range of yoga styles in town from a repertoire of experienced teachers.
Classes include Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Children's Yoga in addition to Partner Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage.
We also offer specialised therapeutic group classes at the studio, as well as having the capability to bring our practice to ‘on-site’ locations for our Corporate and Group clients. We are equipped with a full selection of props and mats for those who don’t yet have their own. Class sizes are kept small to maximize individual attention. Situated on Small Crane Square, just off of Sea Road, it's an easy walk from any town location and has parking directly outside
The Yoga Practice
Yoga has been part of our [An Seomra Yoga] lives since 1994. We have practiced and studied, but mainly enjoyed yoga, with many teachers who have since grown into close friends and yogi allies over the decades.
Our team’s formal training includes: programmes completed in California with YogaWorks, Max Strom and Jamie Elmer. Srivatsa Ramaswami in England; Sunshine House Thai Massage in Greece; Osteopathy and Thai massage with the Thai Massage Academy, Spain, Sivananda yoga in Rishikesh, India; and finally, Yoga Therapy Ireland, Clinical Somatic and Pilates trainings in Ireland. From the vast yoga styles (and cultures) we’ve sampled during these formative training years, we’ve been able to pull the greatest strengths of the practices we believe most closely align with our values and ambitions as a studio.
Yoga is all about taking care of yourself. It is simply a tool to help us lead a healthier, more fulfilled and content life. Our idea at An Seomra Yoga is that yoga is for everyday life. It can be challenging, but should never be laboured or painful. Each student works to their own level, at their own pace. The practice should be simple but stimulating.
The key is to find the correct yoga method for you. Yoga is all about connection; everything can start to make sense when you feel truly connected with your body. With equal parts effort and sensitivity, you will leave the class feeling at ease. The efforts bring us to a place and the softness gives us the opportunity to experience. Some of the byproducts of the practice include: strength, tone, vitality, flexibility, relief from aches and pains, and a greater ability to deal with stress through maintaining grace and a level of calm following practice.
While some of the same benefits of yoga can be found more frequently in sports nowadays, yoga continues to be most optimal for the following specific elements:
* stretching which relieves tension;
* twists that help spinal rejuvenation, aid digestion and help to detoxify the body;
* inversions which aid the lymphatic system;
* balanced & regulated breathing to calm the nervous system; and,
* heart openers that invigorate the adrenal system and strengthen the back muscles.
Regular practice balances all systems of the body – in turn, activating and toning your muscle, bones and organs. Yoga can correct posture, restore energy and stamina, clear the body of toxins and soothe and calm the mind as a whole.
